Get a sneak peek at Pixar's first Hindu hero in 'Sanjay's Super Team'
Pixar is getting back into the superhero game, but it's not Incredibles 2 (at least not yet).
The short film Sanjay's Super Team, which will play before The Good Dinosaur when it's released in theaters Nov. 25, is about a young Hindu boy who worships his Saturday morning superhero cartoons instead of the Hindu deities his father wants him to pray to. The clip shows the first 30 seconds of an admittedly short film, but gives us a good idea of the clash between a Westernized son and his religious father.
The short will be the first Pixar project to draw inspiration from Hindu mythology, as well as the first to be directed by a director of Indian descent, Sanjay Patel. The short is partly biographical to Patel's life and relationship with his father, according to Variety.
Patel “didn’t want film to match any deity style," producer Nicole Grindle said to Variety. "Sanjay wanted to interpret it to our 3D Pixar world.”
