John Oliver built the perfect political quote generator
If a quote sounds good, does it really matter if it's actually true?
Among the many things John Oliver had to fume about—like the Canadian elections on Sunday night's show—was a particularly egregious violation by Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, who used a fudged Thomas Jefferson misquote in a speech last week.
Made-up history is something that Oliver has raged about in the past. He even wrote a book about it: Stranger Than Truth, coming next spring.
So in response to Carson's Jefferson blunder, the Last Week Tonight crew launched DefinitelyRealQuotes.com, which takes the internet's deceptive power to pair any quote with a picture of a famous person to gloriously new heights.
