Simon Cowell would love to be godfather to the One Direction baby
Famed TV singing judge and recent dad Simon Cowell would love to be the godfather to Louis Tomlinson's baby when the One Direction star becomes a father.
Tomlinson is expecting a child with Los Angeles-based stylist Briana Jungwirth.
Asked about news reports that he would be the godfather, Cowell, who launched One Direction from his United Kingdom edition of The X Factor, tells Paste BN:
"If he asks, I'll do it in a heartbeat. I haven’t formally been asked yet, but if he asks me it would be my pleasure."
Like music-judge father, like son
Cowell, who told the Today Show Thursday that he will be a judge on the next season of NBC's America's Got Talent, might be able to offer some parenting advice, too. He and Lauren Silverman had a baby boy, Eric, in February 2014. Not surprisingly, the 20-month-old boy is a music fan.
"He's a happy little thing, so I'm enjoying it," Cowell says of fatherhood. As far as the toddler's interest in music, "He loves it. He puts headphones on. He loves all the animated movies which have music in them. He's obsessed with Jungle Book and Frozen. He loves the new One Direction record, which is a good sign. So he's going to follow his Dad. He s got great taste, but I have watched these movies so many times now. It’s like, 'We’ve got to get you some new movies now.' "
Expects 1D's return after break
Cowell, who signed One Direction to his record label after the internationally famous boy band formed on X Factor in 2010, says he expects the four remaining members – Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Harry Styles – to be back performing again after a much-publicized upcoming break. (Zayn Malik left the band earlier this year.)
"I've sat with all of them. The message is very simple from all of them: 'We wanted a break.' It's been five years. It's been relentless. I think they deserve time to themselves," Cowell says. "I went to one of their concerts recently which was just incredible. I can't imagine not seeing them again do this in the future, because they are an incredible band and their records are fantastic and their new album is probably the best they’ve ever made. So, I remain confident."
