'Supergirl's' Melissa Benoist fights crime in style with Oscar winner's help

In the annals of dressing for success, it’s hard to beat Supergirl’s super suit.
The blue jersey and red skirt, cape and boots may seem more fitting for a flight runway than a fashion runway, but they do make a superhero look and feel good when she’s fighting villains.
Melissa Benoist, who plays the DC Comics hero in CBS’ Supergirl (Monday, 8:30 p.m. ET/PT), tells Paste BN that the hero outfit, which features the iconic "S," has a transformative effect.
“I feel like a different person when I put the suit on. I definitely feel braver," she says. "I feel inspired."
Co-star Mehcad Brooks, who plays James Olsen and joins Benoist for an interview, goads her. “Super? You feel super?”
“Yeah,” Benoist says.
“You look super,” he responds.
It doesn’t hurt that Academy Award-winner Colleen Atwood designed Benoist’s outfit, which has been "tailored to the millimeter to fit" her, Benoist says.
“When you hire someone like Colleen Atwood to design a costume like this, you’re bound to get something sophisticated and elegant and practical,” she says. “I think it’s a beautiful suit.”
That seems like a fair review.
