Who got eliminated in the 'DWTS' semi-finals?
Spoiler alert! This recap definitely has some spoilers.
Monday night, during the semi-finals of Dancing with the Stars, we're sure the remaining couples could practically TASTE the mirror ball trophy–which we imagine to be a delicate combo of sweat and spray tan.
Tamar Braxton was noticeably missing during the couple introductions. Apparently, she had to go back to the hospital after barely making the live show last week. Her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, talked about the multiple blood clots found in her lungs, and for health reasons, she had to withdraw from the competition. Which means that all four remaining couples are going to the finals, and there wasn't an elimination on Monday's episode.
The celebs and their pro partners definitely earned their spots though. Each couple had to dance three times during the show. Performances included an individual dance, a dance-off, and a trio where another pro dancer joined the routine.
Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough
Their first dance of the evening was a high-energy salsa that included lights, confetti, and even a crowd surf from Bindi.
Judge Julianne Hough said that she wished the salsa was a little more "down and dirty," and Bruno Tonioli said that Bindi could work on her hip movements.
Carrie Ann Inaba: 9, Julianne: 9, Bruno: 9
Alek Skarlatos and Lindsay Arnold
For their individual dance, Alek and Lindsay did a waltz that put the "beautiful" in America the Beautiful. Oh, our stars and stripes!
Julianne said it was Alek's best performance yet, and Carrie Ann and Bruno loved the routine too.
Carrie Ann: 10, Julianne: 10, Bruno: 10
Carlos PenaVega and Witney Carson
In his package, Carlos revealed that his parents' divorce hit him hard, like a Holly Holm kick to the heart hard. And Carlos revealed that he hasn't talked to his mom in years.
Carlos and Witney danced a contemporary routine with a gym climbing rope that gave Carrie Ann mixed feelings. (Yeah, we felt that way too whenever we saw that rope in gym class. Where were you, upper body strength?!?) For Bruno, the routine was get-out-of-his-chair fantastic. We're sure it didn't hurt that Carlos danced without a shirt.
Carrie Ann: 9, Julianne: 9, Bruno: 10
Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess
This week in his package, Nick talked about his past drug and alcohol use. After Nick lost his sister, Leslie, to an overdose in 2012, he wanted to cleanup his act.
Nick and Sharna's tango had some footwork and timing issues, but the judges were confident that this Backstreet Boy would be back with better performances in the coming rounds.
Carrie Ann: 8, Julianne: 8, Bruno: 8
Dance-off
Alek and Lindsay and Carlos and Witney were the first couples to face-off in the dance-off round of the semi-finals.
And the chest outta one? Bruno and Julianne voted for Carlos and Witney giving them the victory.
Next up, Bindi and Derek went toe-to-toe with Nick and Sharna dancing a saucy samba.
And the judges unanimously voted Bindi and Derek the winners of this round.
Trio Round
For the trio round, the remaining couples picked up another pro for their last routines of the evening.
Bindi, Derek, and Mark Ballas danced a flawless jazz routine with basically the only furniture we could afford in our first apartments, lights and a kind of table thing.
It was literal perfection, and the judges thought so too!
Carrie Ann: 10, Julianne: 10, Bruno: 10
Next up, Alek and Lindsay did an Argentine tango with Emma Slater.
The judges thought the trio lost a little bit of steam in the end, but Alek's scores were still pretty great.
Carrie Ann: 9, Julianne: 9, Bruno: 9
For their last dance of the evening, Carlos and Witney danced the Charleston with Karina Smirnoff.
Carrie Ann said that the dance was so much fun, and Julianne said that Carlos looked like a professional dancer.
Carrie Ann: 9, Julianne: 10, Bruno: 10
Nick and Sharna danced a salsa with Peta Murgatroyd for their routine.
And the terrific trio got a perfect score!
Carrie Ann: 10, Julianne: 10, Bruno: 10
As we mentioned, all four couples will be back in the ballroom when the finals begin on Monday.
