Celebrity Book Club: The 'baby, it's cold outside' edition

The air is getting colder, the leaves have almost all fallen, and all we want to do is curl up with a hot tea and a good book. But what to read? At EntertainThis!, we answer this question with another question — what good books are the CELEBS curling up with? Let’s check in with our band of celebrity bookworms to see what they recommend.

OPRAH: ‘THE LEADER’

While we continue to wait with bated breath for her next 2.0 book club selection, Oprah does share the books that have left her breathless over the past 15 years. Among the cliffhangers are Paste BN best sellers The Story of Edgar Sawtell by David Wroblewski, One Day by David Nicholls and The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.

REESE WITHERSPOON: ‘THE ‘POP’-FICTION FAN’

We have a hard time keeping up with all the books this bookworm reads, so we’ll focus on just a few. Turns out, popular fiction is out and memoirs are in on Reese’s reading list. Among her recommendations are the “open, honest and downright hilarious” Wildflower by Drew Barrymore and the “amazing” Brave Enough by Cheryl Strayed. Reese portrayed Strayed in the film Wild and highly recommends Strayed’s latest.

While we eagerly await for Reese to come out with her own story, the actress gives shoutouts to more inspiring women, including the “hysterical” Why Not Me by Mindy Kaling and the “stunningly beautiful“ Becoming by Cindy Crawford.

LENA DUNHAM: ‘THE REALIST'

Lena is also a fan of the memoir; this time, it's Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein.

But aside from recommending Brownstein's memoir, Lena's bi-weekly newsletter Lenny also makes plenty of time for literature with their 'Lit Thursday.' Oh how we are love Lit Thursday! Lena and co-founder Jessica Grose cull through some of their current faves but also share their beloved books from the past. And it is always an eclectic selection. Just a few of their recent picks include The Lover by Marguerite Duras, Nothing Right by Antonya Nelson and Fraud by David Bakoff.

JAMES FRANCO: ‘THE ACADEMIC’

James continues to share his love of the written word. The actor's latest favorite? My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante.

The actor also recently shared his latest narration — the audio book version of Kurt Vonnegut’s classic Slaughterhouse-Five.

EMMA ROBERTS: ‘THE ALT/INDIE ‘(L)IT’ GIRL’

Like Reese, Emma has been busy on the nonfiction front. Emma gives rave reviews to Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert. (Her aunt Julia played Gilbert in the movie version of her book, Eat, Pray, Love.)

Emma recently shared her excitement about diving into the memoir M Train by Patti Smith. We love Emma and how she loves books. We can't wait for her next recommendation.

ALANIS MORISSETTE: ‘THE SELF-MOTIVATED STUDENT’

Alanis continues her quest for self-betterment, sharing a few esoteric and educational titles including Shakti Woman: Feeling Our Fire, Healing the World by Vicki Noble and Rainbows of Intelligence: Exploring How Students Learn by Sue Teele

No new books from our previous attendees so, c’mon SJP, Anika and Anderson — read any good books lately?
