Daisy Ridley gives two sandy thumbs up to her 'Star Wars' desert wear
All of the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars get wardrobe changes in the hit new movie. Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) starts out with a cool Resistance jacket and ends up in an X-wing pilot suit. Finn (John Boyega) starts in Stormtrooper armor and winds up in Poe's cool Resistance jacket. (It's alright, they're bros.)
Even Daisy Ridley's great new heroine Rey levels up her costume by the end and gets some neato new weaponry we won't spoil right now but you can read about it over here. She does spend most of the movie, however, in her desert-ready garb from Jakku — we're just going to call it "Jakkouture" — that mostly is comprised of scarves, goggles made from Stormtrooper lenses, a turban, arm wraps and loose flowy material.
She told us that it came in handy when filming Jakku scenes in Abu Dhabi:
"There really wasn't a bad thing about the outfit because particularly in the desert, it was so cool to wear. Michael Kaplan, our incredible designer, designed for the places we were in, which firstly makes it look amazing. And obviously for Rey, because she lives on Jakku, it fits. When the wind was blowing through the scarf and everything, it just looks gorgeous. So it was nice and cool."
The only downside? THIS.
"When I had to wear the turban thing, it was slightly like I couldn’t breathe but that was still OK."
What a trouper! Check out this featurette about the filming in Abu Dhabi:
