Tina Fey is 'opting out' of internet outrage

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was one of 2015's most-loved shows. But while fans praised the Tina Fey-conceived comedy for some racially progressive storylines, not every choice the show made was perfect — with the show's casting of Jane Krakowski as a Native American character particularly drawing criticism.

In a new interview with Net-A-Porter (featuring some absolutely stunning fashion shots), Fey discussed — or, well, established that she wouldn't discuss — the elements of her show that caused a fracas online. “Steer clear of the internet and you’ll live forever," she  joked.

We did an 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' episode and the internet was in a whirlwind, calling it ‘racist’, but my new goal is not to explain jokes. I feel like we put so much effort into writing and crafting everything, they need to speak for themselves. There’s a real culture of demanding apologies, and I’m opting out of that.

That's not the apology that some Kimmy Schmidt fans were probably hoping for from Fey. But hopefully, the show's upcoming season will "speak for itself."
