Is a $40 million mansion from 'Big Lebowski’ a work of art? LACMA thinks so

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art must have some Dude disciples on its board.

In a notable scene from the Coen brothers' 1998 classic The Big Lebowski, The Dude (Jeff Bridges) attends a lavish party (and subsequently gets drugged) at the Beverly Hills estate of porn director Jackie Treehorn.

And according to a recent report from the LA Times, LACMA just agreed to acquire the $40 million mansion, after an investor donated the house to the museum.

LACMA shared images of the house — and a shout-out from Bridges — on its Twitter:

The mansion, designed by architect John Lautner, is a very complicated house — a lotta ins, a lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's — featuring a skyspace artwork by James Turrell (or, as popular culture knows him, the inspiration behind Hotline Bling), a triangular-patterned roof and concrete couches, on which The Dude reclines in the movie.

(No word on whether LACMA will restore the estate's VERY NSFW-watermarked stationary.)

Jackie Treehorn isn't the only person who's likely engaged in X-rated activities at the estate; Rihanna also recently hosted a birthday party there, according to the report.

Let's hope LACMA keeps the mansion's glorious shag carpeting, which really ties the room together.
