Nailed it! The Spirit Awards' best one-liners
Ah, the Spirit Awards. The indie-fest, at which only movies made for under $20 million are allowed entry, is annually held in a tent on the beach. Tables are crowded with sponsored booze. And the proximity of Oscars Sunday makes everyone downright giddy.
This year's awards ceremony was a blast, thanks to Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon and Silicon Valley's Kumail Nanjiani, who hosted the show.
Here are the best one-liners from the 2016 Spirit Awards
"The Spirit Awards honor the year's best movies you've ... been meaning to see." – Nanjiani
"We're going to cuss. We're going to flash some nip. We're going to nominate some people who aren't white." – McKinnon
"Tonight's nominees are more diverse than a brochure for a liberal arts college." – Nanjiani
“Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are here for Carol. Carol is probably the most compelling story about people leaving their gloves behind since The People vs. O.J. Simpson." – McKinnon
"Indie filmmaking isn't about making money. It's definitely about not making money," McKinnon deadpanned.
"These films honor a range of difficult topics from child abuse to even worse child abuse." – Nanjiani
"Netflix: The company that says if you like Beasts of No Nation, you'll like Fuller House." – McKinnon
