Watch Steve Martin sing away his stage fright in a 'Fallon' mini-musical
Instead of silly games or celebrity impression-faceoffs, Fallon rolled out all the stops for the show's Monday night guest: Steve Martin, the comedy legend himself.
So they put Martin's chops to good use with a number that taps into his knack for show tunes—especially since he's currently promoting his new musical Bright Star—with his very own showstopper about how much he really doesn't want to go on Jimmy's show.
As a result, we're treated to a few sublime minutes of Martin flipping out Broadway-style in his green room, lamenting his lack of material, his distaste for small talk, and how he only agreed in the first place because he thought Feb. 29 didn't exist. "Damn you, Leap Year!"
This isn't the first time Martin has performed show-tune soliloquies in the hallways of 30 Rock. This wonderful SNL opening bit from the early '90s has a delightfully similar concept, except that time, he's promising: "Not Gonna Phone It In Tonight."
