Iggy Azalea returns with 'Team' dance video
(Warning: explicit language)
What's an easy way to avoid outraging people with your new music video? Cast a group of dancers instead.
Like Justin Bieber before her, Iggy Azalea is going the "dance video" route for her new single Team, the first new music we've heard from her since Pretty Girls, her Britney collab from last April.
And after a tumultuous rise that's seen her become one of rap's most controversial figures, she makes it clear she's on a "team" of one — "Baby I got me / Only friend I need / Playing on my team." Even the chorus, which Iggy usually outsources to another singer, is all her.
In a new interview with Schon! magazine, Iggy discusses the dark side of her newfound fame, speaking candidly about her mental health.
"I had to have a psychotic breakdown last year, now we’re going to do North America and the rest of Europe, which I didn’t feel like I was in the place to do that last time… I felt tired and stressed out."
Thankfully, she's feeling better now, but she's still battling a media narrative that she says misrepresents her.
"It made me feel very out of control of my own life or my ability to have my own perception of who I was. You don’t want someone else writing your narrative and making you the villain. Then I just realized that, you know what, you can’t control it and I think I accepted that and moved on to living my life."
Allow I-G-G-Y to reintroduce herself — with a new album out this spring, she's not going anywhere.
