Nick Jonas sings about boozy breakup on new single, 'Champagne Problems'
Hooking up with an ex on the heels of a breakup is rarely a good idea but, as Nick Jonas has made patently clear, last year was complicated.
And on the latest single from his upcoming album, aptly titled Last Year Was Complicated (June 10), Jonas embraces those complications, crooning about one last toast with an ex. (Perhaps actress Olivia Culpo?)
In a Reddit AMA last week, the former JoBro admitted the track was inspired by a personal breakup. "Champagne Problems is a song about sharing a bottle of champagne with my now ex as we were breaking up to kind of close that chapter," he explained. "It was sad and slightly sweet at the same time. It was a range of emotions and feelings and I think this song, although it sounds like a party song, actually has some of the deepest lyrics on the record."
"We got champagne problems," Jonas sings on the record. "Oh my God, the room is spinning from the Pérignon, and you're still with me but you're very gone. It feels so right but we both know it's wrong."
