Exclusive: Watch Chloë Moretz's world get rocked in '5th Wave' opening

The first days of an alien apocalypse aren't exactly pretty. Or, well, they're pretty destructive in the sci-fi film The 5th Wave, which puts teenage Cassie Sullivan (Chloë Grace Moretz) right in the middle of a hellacious invasion scenario. The movie comes out of digital HD platforms Tuesday (and Blu-ray/DVD May 3) but you can check out the 10-minute extended opening sequence exclusively here. With voiceover from Cassie, it shows how life is torn apart from her family and mankind when the Others hit with EMP blasts, killer tidal waves, a deadly plague and other sinister attacks.

We were on the Atlanta set for some of the school scenes in the film, and Moretz told us how much care was taken in making a horrifying incident like this realistic:

"It’s not like an intergalactic story where we’re shooting fireballs from our fingertips. That would be great! I love Star Trek and Star Wars and all that stuff, it’s awesome. It’s just with this, you can really relate to it. This is what would happen — you’re filling water bottles out of a dirty stream."
