Will Mindy leave Danny? Here’s our current, sad ‘Mindy Project’ reality
Calling all bad Beyoncé Pad Thais, The Mindy Project is almost here!
We kind of hate bringing you up to speed because the last couple of episodes were just a series of heartbreak emojis, but since mid-season finale aired back in December, and we can barely remember what we had for dinner last night, we feel it’s our duty to catch you up.
In the mid-season finale, we saw how doctors Danny Castellano and Mindy Lahiri met. Long before baby Leo was born or that other Leo won an Oscar (finally).
The episode bounced back and forth between present day and Mindy’s first day at Shulman & Associates. And in this instance, we prefer living in the past. Sure, at first, Danny was Mindy's work nemesis, but eventually he convinced her to stay at the practice, and they even posed for a selfie on a flip phone. Nostalgia, you guys.
Meanwhile, present day Mindy and Danny were at each other’s throats because they want very different things. In an episode called The Parent Trap, Danny played it extra smooth around the time his baby mama was ovulating in the hopes of having more little Castellanos running around while Mindy was sneaking birth control pills. When Danny found out, he suggested that he and his fiancée hold off on wedding planning to “think things through.” Ouch!
Danny was also pressuring Mindy to sell her fabulous apartment in the West Village. Um, did it ever occur to you, Danny that maybe having a backup residence isn't such a bad thing when your fiancé just pushed paused on your wedding planning?
Mindy was also really focused on her fertility practice, just as much as Danny was focused on her fertility. While Danny would prefer she be a stay-at-home mom turning out lasagnas and stand-up Catholic citizens, Mindy takes pride in being a doctor.
In the mid-season finale, in-the-past Danny said to Mindy, “Don’t ever let anyone try to stop you from doing what you want. Not even me.” The next thing we know, present day Mindy hopped the subway to her apartment and started measuring her old closet to see if Leo’s crib fit. Of course his crib fit. Most adults’ NYC cribs would fit inside that ginormous thing.
Let’s not forget to mention that while Mindy measured for the baby bed, Sam Smith’s Stay With Me was playing. You didn’t want to go the day without crying did you?
After shedding some tears, Mindy took the for sale by owner sign out of her window, which was a move as smart as it was heartbreaking. Then she trekked it back to Danny’s and cuddled up to Mr. Castellano for what we’re hoping is not one of the last times.
Yes, Mindy and Danny are a fictional couple with some serious issues, but they’re kind of all we have going right now. So, if they could just come to a solution that makes them both happy, well, that would be great.
The Mindy Project returns via Hulu Tuesday.
