Lauryn Hill cites 'perfectionist tendencies' for tardiness in Atlanta

Lauryn Hill has written a tardy note for herself to fans. Sort of.

On Sunday, she tried to explain (and explain) a very late appearance to a show Friday night in Atlanta that upset many ticketholders. The singer did say that "I have nothing but Love and appreciation for the fans in Atlanta, and regret not being able to give you a full show." She writes early in the post that "The challenge is aligning my energy with the time."

Fans seemed to be losing patience with the musical artist who showed up on stage at Chastain Park Amphitheatre about 10:20 p.m. ET, according to reports, including a review of the abbreviated show from AJC.com reporter Jewel Wicker. The venue has a STRICT 11 p.m. curfew for shows. And well, Hill wasn't about to be given a pass.

So even as the performer took the stage FINALLY, audience members were booing, Wicker tweeted live from the show.

It's not that she doesn't care, Hill says in her Facebook post. "Because I care so deeply about the artistic process, I scrutinize, have perfectionist tendencies, and want space made for spontaneity, which is not an easy process, with the many moving parts on the road."

Road. That's kind of a fitting reference considering that in a video being circulated widely on social media, Hill blames her driver when an emotional fan expresses his disappointment as she greets audience members from the stage after the power is cut off. He calls her out on her tardiness. She says, "My driver got lost. I can't control that."

But the fan presses and says, "I heard your soundcheck out here at 4 o'clock. I live right across the street. Why didn't you stay here?"

She answers, "I'm a perfectionist about what I do."

The fan doesn't appear to buy the excuse and replies, "You're a professional."

And she responds. "That's not how I do it."

OK. Everybody got that?
