Kristin Chenoweth's Tony-hosting advice for James Corden: A shot of tequila

Kristin Chenoweth isn't hosting or nominated or performing at the Tonys this year, but that doesn't mean Broadway's biggest night isn't on the mind of one of Broadway's biggest stars.

Chenoweth, who hosted the Tonys last year and won for her performance in You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, told Paste BN in a recent phone interview that she doesn't follow the ins and outs of the snubs and surprises of the nominations.

"Frankly I'm just glad that the Tonys are still on and that they celebrate Broadway," she said. "I'm just really excited to see James Corden host this year, because I think he's perfect for it. And I think he's going to kill it. He has a Broadway background, so he's a perfect host."

When we asked if she had any advice for the first-time host, Chenoweth did not disappoint: "Have a shot of tequila right before you go on."

Chenoweth won't be able to attend the ceremony this year because she is currently touring and spending her free time recording her very distinctive voice to be used for voice-overs for dog "freak outs" for Mix Mania, but she did say she will make sure to watch whatever she can of the show.

"You know I'm going to be watching," she said. "If I'm onstage I'll be watching bits and parts of it later. Yeah, I can't wait. I can't wait to see what he does for the opening."

She's also excited about a tiny little musical you may have heard of.

"I can't wait to see Hamilton perform, because they always kill it," she said.

And yes, she has seen it. So one more reason to be jealous.
