BET shades Billboard Awards over Prince tribute

Last night's Billboard Music Awards began and ended with Prince.

The first winner of the night, The Weeknd delivered a tearful dedication speech, highlighting the enduring influence of Prince, whose eclectic sound "pushed the envelope." As a closer to the evening, Madonna took the stage in a lavender paisley suit and paid tribute to the Purple One, belting out a rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U. Stevie Wonder then joined the Prince collaborator for a Purple Rain duet.

Madonna later tweeted the tribute was an "amazing moment" for her.

BET, however, was not impressed.

Shortly after Madonna's performance, the network tweeted a promo clip with all the shade it could muster in 15 seconds. "Yeah, we saw that," the clip's text read in a pointed reference to the BBMA tribute. "Don’t worry. We got you."

On Sunday, June 26, to be exact.

Tune in at 8 p.m. ET to see how BET pays homage. If their tribute lives up to the hype of this clip, nothing will compare it.
