Rihanna dabbed to Madonna's Prince tribute at the Billboard Awards

Consider Rihanna one of Prince's spiritual successors — if not for their same classic pop songs and controversy-baiting, then at least for their shared gift of throwing incredible shade.

At Sunday night's Billboard Music Awards, Rih paid tribute to Prince in her own special way during Madonna and Stevie Wonder's performance of Purple Rain, resulting in one of the night's most iconic moments.

Look at her dab:

Not everybody was a fan of Madonna's take on Nothing Compares 2 U, which — before she was joined by Stevie for the surprise Purple Rain duet — drew criticism for her performance.

Including this immaculately-timed promo from BET, tweeted right after the awards, which teased the BET Honors' upcoming remembrance of The Purple One as the real tribute fans need to see.

Until then, we'll always have this perfect Rihanna moment, which hopefully earned her a Prince wink from the afterlife.

As if we didn't love her enough, Rih treated us to a performance of ANTI highlight Love on the Brain earlier in the night.
