This tap dance group just paid tribute to Prince in the best way

On Sunday, Madonna paid tribute to Prince, serenading the audience at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards with a drum machine-assisted rendition of Nothing Compares 2 U and a Stevie Wonder-assisted take on Purple Rain.

The performance was met with critical reviews on Twitter— with BET joining in the shade. But those who decided to tweet through it may have done well to check Facebook first because, while the BBMAs may not have stepped up, the Syncopated Ladies did.

The touring tap dance group — which is helmed by decorated tap dancer and choreographer, Chloe Arnold, and previously got the Internet in Formation with a Beyoncé-approved tap performance — took to Facebook Sunday to share a mesmerizing routine to Prince's 1984 track, When Doves Cry. "Salute the artist," the all-female troupe captioned the video. "From 1958 - infinity... We will always remember!"

Yes, we will.
