Joss Whedon might return to Marvel ... for a female hero
It's no secret that after Avengers: Age of Ultron, director Joss Whedon was tired. Like, really tired. And also a bit disappointed in himself and his work on the superhero sequel. He may have used the words "miserable failure."
But, with some time and perspective behind him the director is moving on to new, non-Marvel projects. But does that mean he'll never go back to capes and tights at Marvel Studios?
TheWrap asked him just that question, and the answer was promising for long-time Whedon fans (aka Whedonites).
“Yeah, of course," he said when the site asked if he'd come back to Marvel for a female superhero movie. "Although I tend more towards the Jessica Jones-ey kind of stories than the delightful Supergirl stories that my daughter wants.”
For those not watching both of those fantastic shows (and you know, shame if you're not), Whedon was indicating that he goes for the darker, more meditative superhero than the happy, upbeat and positive one. Buffy fans will not be surprised by this.
And although Whedon very specifically said he's not directing Captain Marvel, the first solo female-led film on Marvel's calendar, he is really happy it's happening.
“(Marvel Studios head) Kevin Feige fought a mighty fight to get her on the schedule," he told the site. "So it’s a start. You could say that should be a middle, but it’s a start."
