Backstreet Boys proved they're still our fire on Miss USA

Even the Miss USA contestants couldn't hold back their fangirling when the Backstreet Boys took the stage at the pageant Sunday night.

The iconic '90s boy band (and arguably the best of the bunch) took us back to 1997 when we were brace-faced and hugging our poster of Kevin, first hitting the main stage with a performance of As Long As You Love Me, then serenading the Miss USA ladies with I Want It That Way during the evening gown segment.

But there was a kind of awkward moment when Brian Littrell walked out Miss Hawaii, replacing "my one desire" with "you're tall," then probably getting stunned into silence by her beauty. If he and the other boys -- Kevin Richardson, AJ McLean, Nick Carter and Howie Dorough -- didn't think we'd noticed, they'd underestimated how many of those lyrics we had burned in our memories.

Slip-up or not, one of the best parts of the night was during a pre-taped clip of the Miss USA contestants lip syncing to I Want It That Way, then freaking out when the Backstreet Boys themselves crashed the karaoke sesh.

Seventeen years later, the boys are still proving that they'll always be our fire, our one desire.
