Barry's 5 ways to make your treadmill workout less lame


Bored of the treadmill? That's probably because you're not using it right!

Barry Jay, co-founder and namesake of popular workout Barry's Bootcamp (which fans shorten to just "Barry's"), uses treadmills his classes that are attended by the likes of Kim Kardashian and Carrie Underwood. But even if you can't make it to his studio, you can still get a Barry-approved treadmill exercise in.

Exclusively for Paste BN, Barry is sharing five ways (in the video above) to make your own treadmill workout less lame, in time for bikini season. Hint: He incorporates sprints, squats, backwards running, hills, side lunges and more. It is not easy.

  • Warm up 5 minutes (walk or light jog)
  • 1 minute sprint
  • 1 minute recovery at walking pace
  • Repeat the spring/recovery sequence 4 times for a total of 8 minutes
  • Take the incline up 2% with each sprint, starting at 0% incline and ending at 6%
  • Incline 10% - jog backwards (2 minutes)
  • Incline 15% - lunge walk (2 minutes)
  • Inclide 0% - side step (1 minute each side)
  • Incline 0% squat jumps (with average speed of 2)
  • TOTAL OF 20 MINUTES
