RNC late-night roundup: Chris Matthews blunders,'Weekend Update' returns

Day 3 of the Republican National Convention is behind us, and man, the week just keeps escalating. Here's how TV's late night shows recapped the action, from an SNL reunion to fightin' words from Michael Moore.

Weekend Update

Michael Che and Colin Jost reprised their SNL hosting duties for an RNC edition of Weekend Update, featuring a special guest: Kate McKinnon as Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Che also premiered his own version of Pokemon GO: Trumpémon GO. Its goal? "Catch the rarest creature of them all: minorities at the RNC," Che explained, before wandering Quicken Loans Arena in search of some non-white faces.

Jimmy Kimmel Live

With all the political upheaval in America right now, Kimmel wants to rally the country around an issue we can all laugh about: white people dancing funny. "The RNC is the world’s premier Caucasian amateur dance festival," he joked on Wednesday night's show, before rolling a clip of convention-goers (of every color) shaking it off.

Full Frontal

Samantha Bee road-trips to Cleveland in her team's RNC bus, which is really just Herman Cain's trailer from his 2012 campaign with Bee's face taped over it. Hijinks ensue.

Also, don't miss her real-time live brief from the convention's gonzo Day 3.

Real Time With Bill Maher

Michael Moore stopped by Maher's HBO show to explain why he thinks Donald Trump is going to win. “I live in Michigan. Let me tell you: it’s going to be the Brexit strategy,” he said, comparing Trump's campaign to the recent Brexit victory in the UK, before pointing out that Middle America is the Republican candidate's key to winning.

“Mitt Romney lost by 64 electoral votes. The total electoral votes of those four states in the Rust Belt, [Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Pennsylvania]: 64.”

The Daily Show

Trevor Noah recapped Chris Christie's Hillary-bashing speech Tuesday night, mocking convention-goers crossing their arms while chanting "Lock her up!"

"What prison is this?" he joked. "I don't understand — that's how you know white people don't get locked up."

Chris Matthews

Che and Jost should've quit while they were ahead. But they jumped on MSNBC with Chris Matthews, where the conversation devolved into Matthews asking Che who the "funniest black guy" is before making a groan-worthy Cosby joke.
