Podcast pick of the week: 'Tara & Johnny' head to the Olympics

Looking for something new to listen to while you drive to work/go for a walk/wash the dishes? We're here for you. In our new weekly series, we're highlighting a podcast, audio personality or specific story worth hearing.

This week's pick: NBC Sports show Tara and Johnny

Two years ago, Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir -- former Olympic figure skaters known for their gold medal (her) and flamboyant style (him) -- commented on the Sochi Games. That time around, they were on "the B-team," as they called it, broadcasting for NBC Sports during off-hours, and testing out their on-air chemistry with plenty of  "twizzle"-heavy ice-dancing commentary.

A few days into the Olympics, Tara and Johnny became a thing.

Today, the two enter Rio as the eclectic "Tara and Johnny" brand, complete with a popular Instagram account. It's about time they had a podcast.

Why it's ripe for listening:

You never know what Weir's going to wear, and what's going to come out of his mouth. The former skater makes the most divine and unexpected metaphors when describing skating routines and life, like when he told Lipinski on the show that he was surprised she cliff-jumped, considering, for her, "it's real adventurous to eat at a salad bar without a sneeze guard." Lipinski is the perfect yin to his yang with her down-to-earth presence, and the co-hosts serve as the perfect lens through which to view the competition and social happening at the Olympics.

On Episode 1 of Tara and Johnny, which debuted July 27, the pair explain their shtick and how they got so close. They also share anecdotes that help listeners understand how deep their friendship is.

Memorable line:

"I know that we commentate figure skating, but everything else-- the whipped cream of our beautiful tarte-- I think we are cultural attachés to events. So that people can live vicariously through us and enjoy the event," says Weir.
