Gisele went for gold in a Herchcovitch dress at the Olympics opening ceremony
Leave it to Gisele to take the metaphor "going for gold" at the Olympics literally.
Brazil's most recognizable native daughter walked the longest catwalk of her life — which she's said may be her last — in a full-length sequined gown by Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch.
It had the effect of making the world's highest-paid model look as if she was dipped in liquid gold. The long-sleeved column gown with thigh-high slit was made of specially designed fabric, the designer told Vogue, so that the "sequined embroidery would flow horizontally around her body. I didn’t want a conventional gold, but a color that was very similar to her hair tone and skin, a golden light."
The dress took an impressive four months to construct, with multiple fittings and feedback sessions. All of which undoubtedly paid off for the designer and model, who walked alone across the floor of Maracanã Stadium to the iconic song The Girl From Ipanema.
Bundchen, who was born in Horizontina, Brazil, and modeled in São Paulo before moving to New York, expressed her gratitude on Instagram for being included in the ceremony.
"I truly believe that each Olympian lights the path for the next young child dreaming of being at the Olympics and encourages the practice of sports. As I walk down tonight on the longest runway I have ever been on, I will be sending out all my love and positivity."
