How to throw the very best Olympics watch party

Get ready to chant "U S A! U S A!" a lot.

The second weekend of the 2016 Olympic Games is here, and if you're like us that means you'll be watching as much as you can with as many friends and family as you can cram into your living room before the closing ceremonies.

But this is the Summer Olympics. This only happens every four years. So you better up your game. Here are our seven easy steps to throwing a party that’s worthy of gold.

Step 1: Dress the part

This is important. Break out all that red, white and blue you normally reserve for the 4th of July. You can scroll through the gallery below for suggestions about how to show your patriotic spirit, without going too costume.

Step 2: Get your snacks

What says Olympic spirit better than a gold medal? You can have your gold medal and eat it too with these cupcakes. Find the recipe here.

Or if you're looking for something a little more on-theme for Rio, try a spin on Brazilian spin on popcorn by adding some melted sugar, or hot dogs with savory toppings like peas, green olives and quail eggs, favorites of Brazilian native Camila Alves.

Step 3: Get your drinks

Team USA is competing in Brazil this year, and your party should reflect that. There’s no better way to refresh than with this recipe for Brazilian Lemonade.

Step 4: Decorate

Do more than just putting up some American flags. Get into the entire Olympic spirit by putting the rings front and center at your party. Or at least, as the center of your table with this cool DIY centerpiece. See how here.

And if you're not particularly crafty, spend some time on Amazon Prime. No one will be sad about a variety of flash tattoos and inflatable torches.

Step 5: Enjoy (and maybe tweet)

Once your party looks as patriotic and Olympic as it can, sit back and relax! The Olympics are fun! And maybe you can tweet some witty things when the opening ceremony gets going! Although, you won't be able to beat new official Olympic correspondent Leslie Jones' twitter feed. You might as well just keep it open on your phone as you watch the games, and your enjoyment will be upped 100%.
