Zelda Williams explains how she 'kept going' after father Robin Williams' death
Just over two years after her father Robin Williams' death, Zelda Williams is opening up about how she dealt with her grief.
The actress appeared on Chelsea Handler's Netflix talk show, where the host asked her if there was any silver lining to that dark time in her life.
“I didn’t really grow up in the spotlight — we lived in San Francisco — so for me, we were already kind of together and close,” Williams explained. “And so I just kept going, ‘OK, well, today I’m going to get up and love what I do. And then tomorrow I’m going to wake up and be happy and love what I do. And then the next day … because that’s all you can do.”
Everybody deals with grief differently, and Williams admitted that some in her life didn't understand her process.
“It was very funny because, for a while, no one would let me do anything,” she shared. “I think there’s that reaction of like, ‘Oh, (expletive), are you OK?’ And then even if you are OK, they’re like, ‘Well, what’s wrong?’ For awhile, I was just kind of left to my own devices.”
So what did she do with that time? Casually wrote 12 scripts of her own. And this year she's starring in Freeform's Dead of Summer. So yes, she's keeping going and doing what she loves.
