Amy Schumer the 'introvert' explains why stand-up is a lonely pursuit
Just because someone is up on stage, surrounded by fans and at the center of attention, doesn't mean they actually like, you know, people. At least, not according to Amy Schumer.
The comedian, who has been promoting her new book The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo and putting out fires, stopped by The Late Show on Monday night and explained to Stephen Colbert how she's both an introvert and a stand-up comedian.
"I'm a classic introvert." she said. "I don't want to talk to anyone … even if I see someone I like at the gym I'm like ''oh god.'"
"Being a performer is great (for introverts) you're alone up here," she said, indicating Colbert at his desk. "It's like I'm on stage and I'm yapping and then I'm in my hotel room by myself … you run out of energy."
It even translates to her new relationship with Ben Hanisch.
"I was telling him about some jokes that I've been writing and he fell asleep," she said. "That's a lonely feeling," joked Colbert.
