'Bachelor in Paradise': Caila Quinn and Jared Haibon's relationship is tested

Bringing a lamp to Bachelor in Paradise might've been a bright idea.

Brett Melnick, who used a light in his intro when he first met Bachelorette Andi Dorfman, tried the same shtick when he made land Monday night.

Some of the women were attracted to the hairdresser in spite of their connections with other castmates — we're looking at you, Izzy Goodkind. Brett opted to ask out Caila Quinn, who had been spending time with love of Ashley Iaconetti's life punctuated with tears, Jared Haibon.

Caila accepted, and then back, out. She changed her mind more times than we could keep track of, which reminded us of the confusion caused by the sex panther in Ben Higgins' season.

Ashley I., you're not alone. We can't either, but you also inspired floating question marks and head tilts this episode.

Earlier in the show, when Ashley I. did not receive a rose, she was on her way home — presumably after airport drinking — when she said decided she couldn't leave and stopped the car. She went back to the palapa and pleaded with her fellow contestants to let her have another chance at love, this time with an open heart and mind.

The contenders said yes — even Jared — but we're not sure about Caila. We didn't catch her vote on camera, but we certainly got her thoughts.

"Imagine trying to date someone with their ex following you around," Caila said in an interview revealing her concern. "I know she says she's not in love with him, but that was like three hours ago so what will happen in 12 more hours? I don't really know."

We're guessing when Caila was trying to predict the future she didn't foresee going on a booze cruise with lamp man. The date wasn't her scene, and she couldn't wait to get back to Jared.

"Walking away from this date I feel very compelled to just run home and tell Jared that I'm so sorry, and I should've spent this day getting to know him," she confessed to the cameras. "I know I made a huge mistake." That's good because poor Jared was thinking:

When Caila and Jared talked she told him that she liked spending time with him and only went on the date with Brett because she felt like she should.

Ashley I. saw the two kiss. It sent her into a tailspin, even though she said she wanted to focus on other opportunities. "I'm watching my biggest nightmare — Jared falling for somebody else," she shared. "How can we be so close and so compatible and not be with each other? It's like you found your soulmate, but your soulmate isn't into you."

At least Ashley I. can commiserate with Vinny Ventiera, who was heartbroken when Izzy broke it to him that she was attracted to Brett.

See if they run out of tissues when another episode of Bachelor in Paradise airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
