Larry Wilmore takes over Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' monologue
"I thought whoever leaves 11:30 at Comedy Central gets the Late Show."
Larry Wilmore, whose Comedy Central late night show The Nightly Show was canceled last month after a little over a year on the air, chose to spend his new free time by taking over another late night talk show: his old buddy Stephen Colbert's. Thursday's The Late Show on CBS opened not with Colbert walking onto the stage to deliver a monologue but with Wilmore taking center stage and the first Trump joke of the night. Of course, Colbert had just a little problem with that.
Wilmore also sat down for an interview with Colbert where he addressed his disappointment that The Nightly Show was canceled.
“I will say this, though: I’m upset that they did cancel a brother’s show when all the best worst racial stuff starts happening,” Wilmore said. “Hillary calls Trump a bigot, he calls her a bigot, he’s going on his Mexican tour right now. You know, you got a quarterback (Colin Kaepernick) who won’t stand for the national anthem for racial issues. All the best racial stuff happens now that I’ve lost my show!”
