Podcast pick of the week: 'Love Me'
Looking for something new to listen to while you drive to work/go for a walk/wash the dishes? We're here for you. In our new weekly series, we're highlighting a podcast, audio personality or specific story worth hearing.
This week's pick: Love Me
In a lovesick mood? Instead of popping in a shallow, paint-by-the-numbers chick flick, we recommend turning on the new Love Me podcast by CBC Radio to satisfy your need for human connection. Montreal-based producers Mira Burt-Wintonick and Cristal Duhaime, who also produced WireTap, have a show that's authentic, evocative and all about the desire for affection. And that doesn't mean all of the stories are girl-meets-boy romantic ones.
Why it's ripe for listening
Even though the podcast is only in its first season (the show is on hiatus before starting Season 2 production next year), the stories are expertly produced, and range from pieces on why birth order matters well into adulthood, to how, in Episode 4, a pair of newlyweds become two-thirds of an unexpected love triangle. The latter story is part of a satisfying episode will likely shock you, make you laugh and just maybe cause a tear to slide down your face, all in 18 minutes.
Memorable line
This introduction of a character in Ep. 4, "Falling" is more clever than it initially seems:
"She was totally beautiful. I mean, she had this long, dark hair and this almond-shaped eyes. And she knew what she was doing, as well... From the second Brian saw her, I just knew he was gone."
