Lady Gaga's new single 'Perfect Illusion' is here
It's September, and Lady Gaga must have sensed our impending seasonal affective disorder by dropping her first new single of 2016, Perfect Illusion, on Friday. (Thank you, Mother Monster.)
Here's what we know about the song so far:
It was produced by Mark Ronson and Bloodpop
Ronson is the producer who helped guide the late Amy Winehouse to fame before unleashing his own hit Uptown Funk with Bruno Mars. Bloodpop is the man behind the boards for Justin Bieber's Sorry.
Fans figured out the release date by delving into her website's source code
They also found song snippets while poking around behind the scenes. This is why it's good to know how to code, people.
Its lyrics sound decidedly optimistic, almost manic
Her time-out with fiancé Taylor Kinney doesn't seem to have dampened her faith in love, which she compares to a high like that brought on by ... meth?
It's the first single off her as-yet-unnamed fifth album
With her first four LPs titled The Fame, Born This Way, Artpop and Cheek to Cheek, we have no friggin' clue what she'll call this one or what look she'll sport while promoting it. Will she go back to her avant-garde roots or keep up the more classic style she's been fond of the last few years?
The guest lineup for that new album is ... eclectic
Britain's NME listed a few of the names connected with the upcoming album. Some we could sort of see coming, like the reunion with RedOne, the producer of two of her early breakout hits Poker Face and Just Dance. If the rumors about disco gods Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder are true, that would hint at some '70s flavor. Paul McCartney and Elton John are said to be on the list as well — maybe there are some more deep-track piano ballads coming our way?
If Perfect Illusion isn't enough Gaga for you, just be patient: Season 6 of FX's American Horror Story is but a week away. It premieres next Wednesday, Sept. 14 (10 ET/PT).
