Stephen Colbert takes the VP debate (and Mike Pence) to task

“Man, was that vice-exciting!”

Stephen Colbert went live with the Late Show after the vice presidential debate on Tuesday night. And it's a choice he may be regretting considering how "fuzzing" glad he was the moment the debate ended, and how he kind of, sort of watched some baseball in the middle.

But of course Colbert is a professional, which means he could mine comedy and snark even from a debate that was "watching a loaf of white bread get pistol whipped by a jar of mayonnaise: Not a lot of flavor but there was a clear winner."

While the comedian handed the debate win to Mike Pence, the GOP running mate, he also took the VP candidate to task over the religious freedom bill he signed as Indiana governor and his comments during the debate, including "that Mexican thing" and an out-of-context “I try to spend a little time on my knees every day."

“Now fair warning, Mike, Indiana businesses can now refuse to serve you,” he said, adding, “so I’d say Pence’s strong performance bodes well for Trump since everyone knows the team with the best backup quarterback always wins the Super Bowl.”

And just in case you think Colbert stole that white bread vs. mayonnaise joke from your Twitter feed, everyone has made a version of that joke.

The Daily Show "live-streamed" the debate starring milk and white bread, wearing red and blue ties.

“If you were picking these guys up at the airport and they were bags, you’d get these guys mixed up with each other … my ears couldn’t even distinguish between the two of them,” Noah said during the episode.
