Bella Thorne on her bisexuality: Studios have said 'my image is too out there'
When Bella Thorne confirmed her bisexuality on social media in August, the singer-actress wasn’t trying to Shake It Up. She was just being true to herself.
But apparently that’s too much for some studio executives, who have maligned Thorne following her admission.
"It is hard in this business for us," the recovering Disney star recently told Maxim in reference to stars who have publicly announced their sexual orientation. "It really is. I have already had people talk (expletive) to me. And it comes from people in the industry, not even fans. I’ve had studios tell me my image is too ‘out there,’ hinting at it but not really saying it."
But for Thorne, who has designated her social media as a safe, unfiltered space to engage with fans, opening up about her sexuality wasn’t radical but rather par for the course. "I didn’t even think about it," she says. "A fan on Twitter asked me, and I’m super open about it. So I just said, 'Yeah!'"
"People tell me all the time about my social media and my Snapchat," she continues, "but I’m not going to change myself for this business, and I’m not going to change myself for anyone else."
And, despite the backlash, it appears Thorne has managed to find teams that embrace that. The actress currently has a score of projects on her slate, including Famous in Love, Boo! A Madea Halloween and Keep Watching.
