Kerry Washington makes calls, joins other celebs campaigning for their candidates
With just hours until Election Day, celebrities are taking to the campaign trail and social media with hopes their star power will persuade voters to cast a ballot for their choice for presidential candidate.
Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton rubbed her blazer-covered elbow with the elbows of some mega-celebs this weekend. Beyoncé (in a polkadotted pantsuit) and Jay Z performed in Cleveland on Friday. On Saturday, Shonda Rhimes and Katy Perry, wearing a cape embroidered with her confidence that Clinton would be elected “Madam President,” supported the former first lady at an event in Philadelphia.
Clinton got support from LeBron James in Believeland on Sunday. She also met up with James Taylor Sunday in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Other celebs rallied to support Clinton. If you live in The Sunshine State and you thought you overheard Olivia Pope say, “It’s handled,” after fielding a political call, you might not be crazy. Kerry Washington tweeted Sunday that she made phone calls on behalf of HRC while her baby caught some winks.
And because Fitz knows what’s good for him, Tony Goldwyn campaigned in Michigan alongside Adam Shapiro and Katie Lowes.
Lena Dunham shared a video of her quick trip stumping for Clinton in Colorado alongside America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn.
Next on the docket for Ferrera and Tamblyn were Nevada and Arizona.
Debra Messing also joined Clinton in Philly.
Sara Bareilles visited Clinton volunteers in Philadelphia.
George R.R. Martin interjected himself in the political Game of Thrones.
Mary J. Blige posted a photo wearing a blue wide-brimmed hat and over-the-knee boots from her concert in D.C., encouraging her followers to vote.
Pharrell made a video calling for minorities to vote.
Other celebs used social media to tweet their support for Clinton.
We know Republican nominee Donald Trump has a former model (Melania) and a successful businesswoman (Ivanka) in his corner, but other than that we were hard-pressed to find celebs galvanizing votes for the candidate as of late. On Sunday, musician Ted Nugent stumped for The Donald.
And former Apprentice contender Omarosa continued to tweet her support for Trump.
Hopefully for Trump he'll fill voting booths the way he fills his rallies, sans celebrities, as he mentioned to a crowd in Tampa, Fla.. "We don't need Jay Z to fill up arenas," he said. "We do it the old fashioned way."
