Nicole Kidman trolls Jimmy Fallon for not asking for her number (again)
A seemingly hesitant Nicole Kidman returned to The Tonight Show Thursday.
“I’m glad that you’re here,” host Jimmy Fallon said, “and I’m glad you came back ‘cause last time…”
You may remember the interview from last year (that you likely played over and over again), where Kidman surprised Fallon with a revelation that she had been interested in him back when she was single between her 2001 divorce from Tom Cruise and her 2006 marriage to Keith Urban and before Fallon began dating his future wife, Fever Pitch producer Nancy Juvonen.
“I so didn’t want to come back,” the actress said. “I’m in a new movie, Lion. So that’s why I’m here.”
“The past is the past so let’s leave it that way,” the late-night host assured her before moving on with the interview.
However, that proved hard for Fallon to do. When Kidman would speak, the camera would stay on the funny man, as he gave her googly eyes and Gary Wright's sappy '70s song Dream Weaver played in the background, just like when the protagonist sees a love interest in a teen movie.
After the bit was over, Kidman let Fallon know, “There’s more to the story.”
“We were at (director) David Fincher’s house,” she began, “And it was when Brad (Pitt) and Jen (Aniston) were still together. So, it was a long time ago, and you could have asked for my number then ‘cause it was Round 2. Well, second chance and you still didn’t ask for it. And you know that’s true. So, do not pretend.”
“I was at the buffet at David Fincher’s house, and I’m gonna ask for your number?” a confused Fallon asked.
“That’s even more offensive that you don’t remember,” Kidman said. “Do you remember the kitchen and the buffet? Do you?
“My agent had said, ‘Jimmy’s gonna be there and you’ll see that he can ask for your number, ‘cause it may kind of happen this way. And you’ll see.’ And we were lurking in the kitchen, everyone went out and I’m like, waiting and waiting and waiting, and you’re at the buffet, and this is so true and you know it, and you still didn’t ask for my number. So, you are so not interested. It’s okay.”
While Fallon’s memory still seemed hazy, Kidman made another revelation that he husband, Keith Urban, was at the taping, to Fallon’s surprise.
“He decided that he wanted to come on,” she said. “He wanted to come and take care of me while I’m on the show.”
Enter the country music superstar toting a guitar, singing Dream Weaver.
After exchanging pleasantries Fallon suggested that he might visit the couple at their home in Nashville.
“Actually I feel quite safe,” Urban assured Fallon, “‘Cause you have no problem ignoring my wife in the kitchen, apparently.”
Well played, Urban. Well played.
