Seth Meyers finds something fishy in Trump's Carrier deal

"Apparently Trump didn’t actually think he would have to live up to his promises."

Seth Meyers brought out his "A Closer Look" segment (which he seems to be doing more and more after recent events) on Thursday night to scrutinize the president-elect's recent deal with Carrier to prevent American jobs to offshoring. Which, as Meyers points out, is not the full story.

Meyers opened his segment by playing a clip of Trump, apparently surprised that one of his supporters believed his campaign promise that he would not let Carrier move jobs to Mexico, saying the promise was a "euphemism."

“What you said was not a euphemism,” Meyers said. “If you say, ‘I got to second base,’ that’s a euphemism. ‘I’m not going to let an air-conditioning company move to Mexico’ is just a sentence.”

Meyers pointed out that when Trump did, in fact, intervene, though the number of jobs saved is lower than Trump claimed. Meyers quoted Carrier union leader Chuck Jones saying Trump "lied his a-- off."
