Ed Sheeran is ... back? We think so, anyway
Happy Tuesday, here's a morning treat: Ed Sheeran has rejoined the world of social media. Maybe.
American fans awoke to strange blue tiles on the crooner's Twitter, Instagram and Facebook profiles after a full year of radio silence from the artist.
Sheeran said he was taking a break precisely 52 weeks ago, after realizing he'd been seeing the world through a screen, causing a very meta moment for everyone reading his explanation on their iPhones and laptops. At the end of his note, he hyped his eventual return with promises of a third album that would be the best he's made thus far, with a self-imposed deadline of "autumn."
Those in parts of the country seeing a lot of blue — on their local weather radar indicating freezing temps and a belligerent and unwelcome guest called the Polar Vortex — know that autumn has come and gone and Chance the Rapper made a bath-time playlist but we still don't have a new Sheeran album.
Twitter was left with only one logical conclusion: A new album is about to drop and it's all about the emotions invoked by the color red. Kidding. Or a group of hackers is really bored this week and toying with us. Either way, here are some of the best fan reactions.
