5 things to binge-watch over the long Christmas weekend

The halls are decked, the presents are wrapped, and now it's time to relax.

The holiday season is almost over, but you probably still have some vacation days left to enjoy with or without your entire family. In honor of the free time after the most wonderful time of the year, we've rounded up five TV shows and movies ripe for bingeing once you're sick of watching Home Alone for the fourth time. But if you want some Christmas-themed choices, we've got you covered here. If you're planning on getting to a movie theater, we help you make your choice here.

If you loved Stranger ThingsThe OA

The Netflix show starring Brit Marling arrived on Netflix as a holiday surprise, and we couldn't be happier. The show follows a blind woman who returns to her hometown seven years later with her sight restored, without explanation. She seeks out a group of teenagers and a high-school algebra teacher, all of whom she recruits for a larger mission. It's got mystery and thrills aplenty to keep you (and your family) guessing.

If you're OK with darkness: The Man in the High Castle

The Amazon show returns for its second season a little more relevant than when it first premiered. The alt-history show takes place in a world where the U.S. lost World War II, and the country is ruled half by Japan, half by Nazi Germany. The new season introduces viewers to the titular man and expands its mythos.

If you didn't get enough Cumberbatch in Doctor StrangeSherlock

Sherlock is back, again. The fourth season of the BBC (PBS in the U.S.) series arrives on New Year's Day. In anticipation of more Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman arguing at the speed of light, it's a good time to revisit the first three seasons and Victorian special. The actors may have graduated to bigger and better movies, but we'll always love them as Sherlock and Watson the most.

If you want a little Christmas but mostly comedy: Coming to America

If we have to choose between two Eddie Murphy comedies that are tangentially related to Christmas, we'd have to go with Coming to America over Trading Places. The former, which is leaving Netflix in the New Year, follows Murphy's African prince who comes to New York in search of his new queen (so, obviously, he goes to Queens).

If you want something everyone can enjoy: Stardust

Everyone in your family will like Stardust. We promise. It's a crowd-pleasing fairy tale with stunning visuals and a comedic role for Robert De Niro that will make you forget all about Dirty Grandpa. The movie also stars Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Michelle Pfeiffer and more, all in the best costumes you can think of.
