Blake Shelton thanks 'hottest date' Gwen Stefani at People's Choice Awards

Blake Shelton just made People's Choice Awards history.

Shelton was already scheduled to take the stage, revealing his contemplative new single Every Time I Hear That Song. But after his performance, the country singer's night got even sweeter.

Shelton was awarded Favorite Country Male Singer and Favorite Album for his 2016 record If I'm Honest, making him the first country artist to win the best album category.

Shelton thanked his sweetheart Gwen Stefani, who was on hand in the audience to cheer him on. "Thank you to the hottest date here tonight, Gwen Stefani," he said, as the audience cheered.

Acknowledging his groundbreaking win in the all-genre category, Shelton also had some words for any country music haters watching at home. "I look at that category of album of the year, and I know that somewhere out there, there's someone going, 'I mean, how did he win album of the year? Like, isn't that just a country album full of stereotypical drinking and cheating and tailgates?'

"And to that person, I say, you're (expletive) right it is," he said, ending his speech with a bang.
