Pants are the hot, feminist red carpet trend this awards season

Pantsuits have been the biggest fashion statement in the world of politics over the last year. And now they're heating up the 2017 awards season red carpets.

Hollywood is putting its own spin on the trend, however, pushing the fashion envelope.

Evan Rachel Wood has been leading the charge. In an Altuzarra tuxedo at the Golden Globes, she made it known she'd be wearing pants through the year to prove to young girls that dresses aren't a requirement.

Octavia Spencer and Kathryn Hahn also eschewed dresses for pants at the Golden Globes, in blue and black suits.

On Sunday, Wood again wore pants and a jacket with a classic tuxedo stripe by Altuzarra. The dark blue jacket was accentuated by wide, black lapels. And the matching pants got a nice update with a cropped length.

Gwendoline Christie of Game of Thrones also made a statement on the red carpet, choosing a black sequined jumpsuit by Vivienne Westwood. The face of Westwood’s 2015 “Unisex” campaign, Christie repeated that she's continued her partnership with the designer because of the activist mindset of the brand.

Naomie Harris likewise went with a jumpsuit -- a striped Lanvin with thin straps. The Moonlight actress kicked off the year with cream wide leg trousers by Brandon Maxwell at the National Board of Review Gala.

Orange Is the New Black's Danielle Brooks opted for a white pant and top combo with long train by Christian Siriano. Her co-star Dascha Polanco also went with pants and a tuxedo jacket.

YouTube star Hannah Hart also went with a navy blue and black suit.
