'You look homeless': The 'Girls' stars' weirdest Hollywood encounters

NEW YORK — Before they were stars of a long-running HBO series, the ladies of Girls were relative unknowns navigating a whirlwind press tour and some questionable style choices.

Before the divisive comedy returns for a sixth and final season Sunday (10 ET/PT), the cast shares a couple of their most memorable A-list run-ins with Paste BN.

Allison Williams: Our first Today show appearance, (co-star Jemima Kirke) didn’t know she was supposed to wear clothing and be in hair and makeup. We all showed up dolled up, and she just showed up in a t-shirt.

Zosia Mamet: I remember you were like, “I didn’t know I was supposed to wear clothes.”

Jemima Kirke: No one told me.

Lena Dunham: That was the day you introduced yourself to Jeff Bridges. You were like, "Hey, I really love you!" And he was like, "... hi." I was like, “Maybe he didn’t want to talk to you because you look homeless.”

Williams: Joke’s on him. Now you look like Dolly Parton.

Although Kirke's self-confessed celebrity crush didn't give her the time of day, another Oscar winner was more gracious when he met them at the 2013 Golden Globes, where Girls won best comedy series and actress (Dunham).

Dunham: (Kirke) chose not to come to our first Golden Globes and missed Daniel Day Lewis saying, “Congratulations, girls.”

Williams: Which made us all pass out. Even Judd (Apatow, the show's executive producer).

Dunham: Here’s the thing: I don’t think he knew what the show was, I think he was just referring to us as “girls” because we were a group of girls.

Mamet: We were literally huddled in a circle screaming our faces off, like at a dog decibel. Judd was like, “No, you are girls who are screaming and he’s a kind old man.”

Or maybe Daniel Day is actually Girls' No. 1 fan. Which begs the question: Is he more of a Jessa, or a Shosh?
