Twitter goes to town on Trump after he bows out of Correspondents Dinner
If you thought you heard cursing in the distance around 5 p.m. ET Saturday, that was probably the sound of Sunday morning political show producers scrambling to put together a new segment after President Donald Trump announced he was skipping this year's White House Correspondents Dinner.
The last president to miss the annual confab of official Washington, Hollywood and the media was Ronald Reagan. His excuse for sitting out the 1981 dinner? He was recovering from a bullet wound he received during an assassination attempt one month earlier. But he still called in with some jokes. Like, "if someone tells you to get into a car quick, do it."
Speaking of jokes, Twitter users had several of their own after hearing about Trump's decision.
