Hey Jim Henson fans: Netflix is making a prequel to 'The Dark Crystal'

Netflix is getting going on an adventure to the world of Thra.

The streaming service announced Thursday that it is producing a prequel series to Jim Henson's classic 1982 film The Dark Crystal with the Jim Henson Company. The 10-episode series, called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, will take place "many years" before the original movie and will take fans back to the world of Thra first introduced in the 80s film. "When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world," the official synopsis reads.

Netflix also released a short teaser for the series, featuring archival clips of Henson talking about working on the original film.

The new show will be executive produced by Now You See Me director Louis Leterrier, and will start shooting this fall.
