'American Horror Story: Cult' shows Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton masks in opening credits

American Horror Story is back with a new season some fans will find especially harrowing. The topic? Life following the 2016 election.

The opening credits scene, which was released Monday, features creepy music with blaring trumpets and steady drum rolls as clowns and other scary sights flash onscreen. Particularly notable are the brief appearances of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton masks, revealing the theme of this American Horror Story

And a new trailer for American Horror Story: Cult features the characters reacting to the news of America's new president on election night.

Evan Peters, who has played multiple parts throughout the anthology series, plays a die-hard supporter of President Trump.

Sarah Paulson's role, however, is quite the opposite. Her character's fear of clowns intensifies post-election (if you share her fear, watch at your own risk — the clown in the trailer doesn't look like someone we'd want to befriend).

The show's creator Ryan Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that he wanted to represent all views related to the election.

"What needs to happen in our country now is for people to listen to each other — we may not always agree with each other and we may be horrified by what the other side is doing but we have to move toward understanding," Murphy said.

Executive producer Alexis Martin also hinted about the season, according to Variety.

“It’s more about what’s going on in our world around us, the idea of paranoia,” Martin said.

Earlier this summer, we learned that Lady Gaga is sitting this season out and Girls mastermind Lena Dunham and Billy Eichner are be coming aboard out when Cult premieres Sept. 5 on FX.
