Podcast: Here's what it was like covering the Golden Globes blackout

The Golden Globes in 2018 raised the national conversation.

Normally the rowdiest award show, the Globes telecast on Sunday dealt with serious issues in the throes of Hollywood's ongoing sexual harassment scandal. What was it like on the ground?

More: Golden Globes: I've worked red carpets for 10 years. This one was like none I've ever seen

On this week's episode of Straight Up Hollywood, West Coast editor Andrea Mandell (@AndreaMandell) talks about covering the surprisingly earnest red carpet, which saw a sea of black outfits in solidarity to the #TimesUp movement.

Entertainment reporter Carly Mallenbaum (@ThatGirlCarly) talks about her view from the ballroom, where she heard Oprah Winfrey's soaring speech in person, a clear high point in the evening. Movie reporter Bryan Alexander (@BryAlexand) takes us backstage, where Winfrey even wowed reporters.

Of course there were after-parties, but you'll be surprised at what we found at them. Listen in: The night will serve as a harbinger of things to come in awards season 2018.
