Laura Benanti's Melania is trapped in an 'ocean of loneliness' on 'The Late Show'
Stephen Colbert still had punchlines to hurl even after his live show following President Trump's first State of the Union. Late Show writers delivered zings to No. 45 via Laura Benanti's Melania Trump Wednesday.
Commenting on news that the first lady traveled to the Capitol without her husband, Colbert cracked, "So, the state of our union is strong; the state of their union? It's complicated."
To see if "Melania" really has hostile feelings for our nation's leader, Colbert interviewed "the first lady" from the "White House." And, it seems the white suit Benanti donned (similar to what the real Melania wore Tuesday) was the only bright spot for her character.
"My life is ocean of loneliness," she responded in her Slovenian-accented English when Colbert asked how she was feeling. But as it turns out, she was only promoting her fragrance, titled Ocean of Loneliness, "a decadent bouquet of gardenia blossoms with a hint of 'I live in a prison of my own making.' "
