Junior sneakerhead overwhelmed by surprise gift of coveted Nike shoes
Zambian youngster, Chileshe, had been longing for a popular pair of Nike sneakers for what seemed to him like forever! The shoes were trending online in Zambia, and many of his friends and family had managed to get a pair. His cousin, Shifwati, who was studying abroad in China, had promised that he’d buy him the sneakers for his birthday after Chileshe’s mom sent a picture of them. But unfortunately, they couldn’t be shipped in time, so Chileshe’s birthday came and went, and the sneakers did not arrive.

Bravely hiding his disappointment, Chileshe resigned himself to not getting the sneakers that year. But secretly, they were already on the way.
When the shoes finally arrived, Chileshe’s mom and sister hatched a plan to surprise him. Just days after his sister’s birthday, Chileshe was called into a room at the family’s home in Lusaka, the Zambian capital. The little boy had no idea why, and even when he saw the box, he assumed it was another gift for his sister. But it wasn’t. It was his dream pair of sneakers, and he was totally ecstatic!
Shifwati says his cousin’s reaction filled his heart with joy. “He’s a very sweet boy,” he says. “And I’m glad I made his day.”
