There's a certain comfort in being able to connect with someone in your own language.
For 11-year-old Zoe, that moment came unexpectedly at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
Zoe is deaf and usually her parents have to interpret conversations, says her mother, Jeanette Apley.
But when Zoe approached the character of Princess Anna from the movie Frozen, the woman dressed as the popular royal began using American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate with the girl.
Jeanette called it "magical" to see her daughter able to chat freely with a mascot at the park.
Watch the moving video of the sign language conversation above.
